SAFETY
  • The safety of all participants at the Portal conference is of the utmost importance to us. We have implemented a number of measures to ensure that everyone can feel safe and secure while attending.
  • We encourage all attendees to report any safety concerns they may have to our Safety Team, who will be easily identifiable by their bandanas. The Safety Team will be stationed at a table in the venue and will be available at all times to assist with any concerns or incidents that may arise.
  • In addition, we will set up a flagging system for interactive program items (games, larps, workshops, etc), where prospective attendees can draw our attention to any safety concerns they may have about other prospective attendees. We will take any reports seriously and will not hesitate to exclude individuals who pose a threat to the safety of others.
Respect, Encouraged Behavior and Inclusion
RESPECT
At the Portal conference, we expect all participants to treat each other with respect and dignity. We have a strict code of conduct in place that all attendees are required to comply with. This code of conduct includes a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment, bullying, intimidation or any other form of non-consensual behavior. Any breaches of this code will result in appropriate action being taken, ranging from a verbal warning to removal from the conference.
ENCOURAGED

BEHAVIOUR
We believe that creating a welcoming and inclusive environment is key to the success of the Portal conference. To help achieve this, we encourage attendees to:
  • Practice active listening and be mindful of others' viewpoints
  • Give everyone an opportunity to speak by not interrupting or dominating conversations
  • Be mindful of language and terminology, as there may be attendees from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Use inclusive language and respect attendees' pronouns
  • Welcome new attendees by engaging in conversation and including them in activities
In addition, we recommend that attendees practice the "empty chair" principle during groupdiscussions. This involves keeping an empty chair at the table to signify that anyone is welcome to join the conversation.

INCLUSION
We are committed to creating an inclusive space for all attendees at the Portal conference. We welcome attendees of all backgrounds, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic. We believe that diversity is a strength and encourage attendees to embrace and celebrate differences.

Overall, we hope that all attendees will come to the Portal conference with an open mind and a willingness to engage with others in a respectful and inclusive manner.
